How to Register to Vote

Voter Eligibility: Who Can Vote?

In order to vote in the Richmond Hill municipal elections, you must be:

• A Canadian citizen
• At least 18 years old on or before Voting Day (October 26, 2026)
• A resident of Richmond Hill, an owner or tenant of land in the City of Richmond Hill, or the spouse of an owner or tenant of land in Richmond Hill
• Not prohibited from voting under the Municipal Elections Act, and any law

How to Vote Online

Online voting will take place from October 20, 2026 at 10:00 a.m. until Voting Day, October 26, 2026 at 8:00 p.m.

1. Watch your mailbox

   The City mails every eligible Ward 2 voter a Voter Information Letter with a unique PIN. That PIN is what unlocks your ballot online, so keep the letter somewhere you'll find it.
2. Go to the City's voting portal

   Starting Tuesday, October 20, follow the online voting link on the City of Richmond Hill's election page and enter your PIN along with the identity details it asks for.
3. Mark your ballot

   Select your choice for Ward 2 Councillor and any other races on your ballot. You can review and change your selections before you submit.
4. Submit and save your confirmation

   Once you submit, your vote is final. Save your confirmation number in case you ever need to follow up with the City Clerk's office.

The portal stays open 24 hours a day through Voting Day. Each PIN can only be used once, so there's no risk of double-voting.

How to Vote In Person

In-person voting by paper ballot and vote tabulators will take place on:

• Bring one piece of identification that shows your name and current address
• On these advance days, any Richmond Hill vote centre will accept your ballot

Voting Day

Monday, October 26, 2026 — polls open at 10:00 a.m. and close at 8:00 p.m.

• Vote at your assigned vote centre
• Every vote centre is accessible, and staff can help if you need assistance marking your ballot

Before You Vote

A few things worth doing ahead of time, whichever way you plan to vote:

• Confirm you're on the voters' list — you can still be added if you're missing
• Keep your Voter Information Letter and PIN somewhere safe until you vote
• Decide now whether you'll vote online or in person, and put the date in your calendar
